GUM CONTORIONG

Many factors come together to create a perfect smile. Healthy pink gums form a stark contrast to the white teeth, framing the tooth’s natural beauty.

Sometimes one small area of gum can detract from an otherwise pleasant smile. The scalloped flow may be uneven, or a thick area may protrude unnaturally, causing a visual distraction.

Just as a piece of art benefits from reframing, gums can be contoured to complement the smile. Fortunately, the latest dental technologies often make this procedure quick, painless, and dramatic. The results can be seen immediately, and after a few days of healing, your gums look perfectly natural.

In some cases, more extensive contouring may be discussed. Our doctors evaluate many factors before deciding which approach will give you the most beautiful smile.

Typically, this is a highly personal decision that is made based on how you feel about your gums. If your gums are uneven, or they cover too much or too little of your teeth, then you may be a good candidate for gum contouring or gum reshaping.
For many patients, the results of the gum contouring procedure are permanent and do not need to be repeated. Typically, gums do not grow back after being shaped. Maintaining and cleaning the teeth regularly can help prevent further irritation or recession from occurring.
Patients may feel mild discomfort after contouring, but they can generally return to work and daily activities shortly after their procedure. After surgery, patients will want to take it easy for several days or weeks as gums heal and swelling goes down.
Floss daily. Floss once a day with dental floss to get rid of food and plaque stuck between teeth. Brush twice a day. Brush your teeth for two minutes with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.
